Welcome to Reception

Week 3 September 2017

This week we have been making more friends and following our new routines. We have learned the letters and sounds s, a, t, p , i, n, m, d . We are trying to listen and identify the initial sound in words.

In the studio we have been painting portraits and exploring with paint. In the maths area we have been using numicon matching numbers and quantities. In the literacy area we have been practising our newly learned letters and sounds and making puppets of Biff, Chip, Kipper from our school reading books. Outside we have been playing in the sand, weighing pine cones and making games with hoops and numbers, we have been keeping and adding up our scores.

Next week we will start our new Talk for Writing sessions where we will be learning a classic story off by heart.

Please remember to label all clothes and to have a change of clothes for your child at school at all times.

Lunch forms can be posted into the green post boxes on the play ground, at the bottom of the hill before coming up the path to the classrooms. All lunch forms are due on Wednesday or before.

Week 2. September 2017

Thanks to parents for attending the Reception Open Evening. We hope you found it informative and took away some ideas about how to support and encourage your child's learning at home.

Soon you will find copies of the Open Evening Presentation below  to view on line and additional leaflets which were handed out during the evening. If you were unable to attend the presentation you should receive paper copies of the leaflets during this week.

Week 1. September 2017

This week

We have been very busy settling into our new classrooms and getting to know the adults in our department. There has been a lot to remember with new routines, new places to go and new people to meet. Each morning we began our day by singing the 'Days of the Week' song and then we explored our first letter sounds during phonics. We did some counting and number songs before getting ready for Lunch. In the afternoons we are getting to grips with our first Literacy sessions and enjoying our Child Initiated time.

Next week our focus will be:

Handwriting:

Forming patterns

Literacy:

Reading book characters

Maths:

Recognising numbers
