Thematic Overviews
We aim for all children to enjoy their learning and wider enriching experiences. Our curriculum is thematic across all phases and underpinned by the school’s core values—Communication, Respect, Engagement, Aspiration, Teamwork and Enjoyment—alongside wider character traits such as resilience, curiosity, ambition, cultural respect, diversity and environmental care. These are embedded through planned teaching moments, modelling and value-based praise so that pupils understand how they shape learning, behaviour and relationships.
Early Years Foundation Stage
EYFS follows a one-year cycle because young children benefit from repeated, familiar themes that can be explored in increasing depth as their skills develop. EYFS revisits the whole-school value focus within a single year, using age-appropriate language, modelling and play-based experiences.
Values are introduced, formally and gradually, and are linked to the EYFS framework characteristics of effective learning. This ensures children meet the same core ideas as the rest of the school, but in a way that matches their stage of development. The emphasis is on progression from adult-guided understanding towards children beginning to recognise and apply these values independently.
KS1 and KS2
From Year 1 onwards, pupils engage with a more structured thematic curriculum delivered over a two-year cycle. This allows the school’s values and character traits to be mapped clearly across six topics without unnecessary repetition, ensuring balanced coverage and progression. Individual subjects follow detailed progression models, while overarching themes provide coherent links and support cross-curricular learning. Each theme is anchored by a shared value or concept to deepen understanding over time. Learning environments and enrichment opportunities reflect these themes, creating purposeful, immersive experiences.
