Through the Ashmead learning community, effective partnerships on all levels enhance opportunity and creativity, leading to brighter futures for all.


We hope that Ashmead is a place that is exciting to visit and difficult to leave. A place where ‘people’, no matter what their role, feel valued, feel equal and feel safe. A place that is much more than a School, but rather an experience, where learners are motivated by a thematic curriculum and taught through first hand experiences that make learning relevant and exciting. A place where pupil’s thirst for challenge and need for support are satisfied in equal measure. A place that recognises and promotes the importance of ‘partnerships’ as a key element of success. A place where people are respected and so they respect, where they are inspired and so they inspire. A place filled with smiles and happiness where children are nurtured until they flourish and gain the strength and confidence to fly.

Aims of the school


Ashmead School represents the first stage in your child’s education.  Together we will work to enrich and support your child in their academic, emotional and social development. Our primary aim is to provide the best possible education for our pupils and to prepare them for their future, engaging them in the lifelong learning process.


To achieve this


  • We will provide appropriate levels of support for all our children whatever their particular needs may be.
  • We will develop creativity and an understanding of the world in which we live.
  • We will teach children to know themselves and others, and understand their place and importance in the world around them. 
  • We will encourage co-operation and independence, teamwork and opportunities for personal study. Expression through movement, dance, music, drama and art will form an important part of the learning process.
  • We will introduce children to the mysteries of science and the wonders of the past and present.
  • Children will interpret their learning through the written and spoken word, mathematical investigation and creative and performing arts.
  • We will encourage mature behaviour and social harmony with an emphasis on helping others and appreciating the difficulties others may experience.
  • Self confidence and a strong feeling of self worth will be fundamental in all that we do.
  • We will pay particular attention to providing an inviting, stimulating and engaging environment. The spaces beyond the classroom will be seen as an extension of the building and provide opportunities for further study and curriculum enrichment.
